Overview

The construction industry exerts a direct and significant influence on economic growth, environmental protection, and social development. The built environment worldwide is striving for a smart, sustainable and resilient future. Over the past decades, the global construction sector has confronted persistent challenges including housing shortages, low productivity and labour constraints. Modular construction (MC), as an innovative approach, has been promoted and adopted in many countries such as US, UK, Canada, Germany, Australia, Singapore, and China. To date, many high-rise modular buildings have been completed worldwide, with both steel and concrete modular buildings reaching heights of over 50 storeys. In Hong Kong, modular integrated construction (MiC) has been adopted in delivering more than 150 building projects since 2017, covering various types of development in both public and private sectors. MC has demonstrated substantial advantages in productivity, quality and safety, with rapid development.

Co-organised by the International Association for Modular Construction (IAMC) and The University of Hong Kong (HKU), the International Conference on Modular Construction 2026 (ICMC 2026) will be held on 21 November 2026 in Hong Kong. This Conference is a flagship event of the InfraEX Week 2026.

ICMC 2026 will provide a premier international platform for industry leaders, professionals, policymakers, and academics worldwide to share cutting-edge research findings, innovative practices, emerging technologies, and future developments in MC/MiC. It will cover a wide range of research fields in the application of MC to building construction and infrastructure development. Featuring renowned speakers from over 10 countries and regions, the conference will facilitate high-level exchanges and international collaboration.
